Must-see attractions

Archaeological area of Fiesole

900 metres from the apartment

Bounded by the Etruscan walls, the archaeological area preserves traces of Fiesole history: in place of the Etruscan Temple from the 4th century BC, the Romans, after conquering the city in the 1st century BC, built another temple and enriched the area with the famous Roman Theatre and the Thermal Baths. At the sacred area of the temple, a Longobard necropolis bears witness to the subsequent use of the area.

Cathedral of Fiesole

850 metres from the apartment

The Cathedral of St. Romolo, built in Romanesque style, is the main place of Catholic worship in Fiesole, bishopric of the diocese of the same name. It was erected by the bishop Jacopo il Bavaro in 1028, enlarged in the 13th century and restored in the 19th century, from which the neo-Gothic appearance of the facade dates back.

Florence

10 km from the apartment

Florence is an important university center and UNESCO World Heritage Site (the historic center since 1982), it is considered the place of origin of the Reinassance and of the Italian language, thanks to the Florentine vernacular used in the lecterature. In 1986 it was declared European City of Culture.

Chianti

30-40 km from the apartment

The area of the Chianti hills is wider than 20 km, which extends between the provinces of Siena, Florence and a small part of Arezzo. The territory is tipically hilly and the vines present in this area are those named Chianti DOCG, indeed the main attraction is the myriad of cellars present in this area. The most interesting towns to visit are Castelnuovo Berardenga, Barberino Val d’Elsa, Greve in Chianti, Poggibonsi and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

Fiesole really is a great place. A lot of history, friendly people and a charming town that is not far at all from the hustle and bustle of Florence. We ended up not renting a car and honestly we didn’t miss it. The bus rides into the city are a quick 18-25 minutes and cost 1.5 Euro. The bus is about a 10 min walk from the house. The house itself is lovely. Spacious and as other reviewers have mentioned, Michelangelo and his family went above and beyond to make us feel right at home. There were four of us and we had a great time.

Michelangelo was a great host. His father let us into the apartment and carried our luggage upstairs. The apartment was lovely. He thought of everything. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and there was a welcome basket of juices, wine, sweets and a homemade pie made by Michelangelo’s mother. The beds were very comfortable and the view from the balcony was splendid. Tuscany at it’s best. He had a folder with a list of numbers you might need, restaurants and pharmacies. There’s a good sized living room with comfortable couches. Lots of amenities in the bathroom and a washing machine as well. Parking was very nearby. Michelangelo checked on us and let us know the best way to get into town. Fiesole is a charming little town outside of Florence with bakeries, a supermarket, pharmacies, and several restaurants. You’ll love your stay.

My family of 5 felt very comfortable here. En-suite bathroom plus second bathroom were a plus. The updated place was spacious, clean and inviting. Kitchen thoughtfully stocked with everything. Towels, extra toiletries, and a welcome basket of breakfast foods and drinks added a nice touch. And the homemade tart was delicious. We loved being able to walk into town to ride the bus into Florence, and left our rental car parked in the lot nearby for the entire stay. Fiesole is quiet and quaint with narrow streets, and beautiful views of the landscape. Michelangelo kept in touch before and throughout our stay. He was there to help get our luggage unloaded, and his father showed us where the private parking was. My kids were very happy and didn’t want to leave.
